FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about Nora Roberts’s
books
Will Nora write more about the characters
from the Chesapeake Bay series? Or from
High Noon? Or the Sign of Seven trilogy? Or any series/book she
has written?
Readers write all the time asking for
more stories about the characters they love—from their concern that
Aubrey Quinn never got her own book to wanting to see High Noon’s
Phoebe and Duncan get married. While it’s wonderful that the characters
have woven their way into readers’ hearts, by the time a book is released,
Nora has already bid those characters a fond farewell and met a new
set of characters who will later charm and enchant her readers.
When will Nora write more paranormals?
While Nora had a great time writing the
Circle and Sign of Seven trilogies, she’s taking a break from stories
with paranormal elements. If a fabulous idea occurs to her, no doubt
she’ll find a way to bring it to the page. In the meantime, if you
would like a touch of the paranormal, check out the In Death novellas
released each fall.
When will Nora finish the MacGregor
series?
Nora parted ways with Silhouette (the
publisher of this series) in 2002, so she will not write any more MacGregor
stories.
In
Tribute, it says Ford was conceived in a Ford Cutlass—that’s
not possible as there is no such car!
Many eagle-eyed Ford and Chrysler fans
noticed this error. Nora intended it to be a Ford Mustang.
When will the next four books in the
Sign of Seven series be in stores?
The Sign of Seven trilogy concluded with
the third book, The Pagan Stone.
What is Nora working on now?
She is finishing the fourth book in the
Bride Quartet: Happy Ever After.
Questions about J. D. ROBB books
(Please note that spoilers are very much ahead)
In which book does Eve meet Roarke?
In the first book of the series,
Naked in Death.
In which book do they get married?
Eve and Roarke get married off-stage
between the third and fourth books of the series. The ceremony is about
to start as Immortal in Death ends, and they are on their
honeymoon when Rapture in Death opens.
In which book does Roarke find out
the truth about his family?
Roarke learns he doesn’t know everything
about his past in Portrait in Death.
In which book is Mira in danger?
She is captured in the novella “Midnight
in Death,” which was first published in an anthology titled
Silent Night then subsequently reprinted
in Three in Death.
In which book do we first meet Max
Ricker?
Max Ricker is first introduced in
Judgment in Death.
Is the Medical Examiner Morris or
Morse?
Li Morris is the NYPSD medical examiner.
In a continuity error, he was referred to as Morse in Witness
in Death and Judgment in Death.
Why don’t the books have the picture
of Eve on them anymore?
That is actually the official J. D. Robb
author photo, not a depiction of Eve.
Why don’t the books say
“Nora Roberts writing as J. D. Robb” anymore? Is she no longer writing
the series? That’s what I hear!
Nora writes every word of the In Death
series—after all, she’s as interested in the characters’ lives
as the readers are. The marketing department at Penguin decided
that after 14 books reminding readers that it was Nora Roberts writing
as J. D. Robb, that it was time to let
J. D. Robb get top billing.
“Missing in Death” is only listed as an audio book, when will it
be in print?
If you check the In Death book list (insert
link), you will see titles listed in “ ” that are followed by a
bold-face title. For example: “Missing in Death” featured in
The Lost anthology. The titles in quotes are novellas, which
run about 98 pages and are meant to be a taste of the In Death world
to tide readers over until the next full-length book. The novellas
are part of an anthology with three other stories and a loose theme.
Nora’s audio book publisher only contracts to record the J. D. Robb
novellas and releases them alone.
When will Eve and Roarke have a baby?
Nora has said repeatedly that a baby
would signal the end of the series. In her opinion, a baby changes everything
(for the better) and the focus of the series would change radically.
In no way does this mean Nora thinks a mother can’t be an excellent
police officer (or attorney or any other type of professional). It
does mean that many of the things readers love about Eve and Roarke’s
life together would change (i.e., leaving home for hours on end only
to return to continue working in their home offices).
Why can’t Summerset take care of
a baby?
When Eve and Roarke are parents, Nora
has no doubt that they will be very much hands-on. While Summerset would
be integral to their lives running smoothly, they would not just hand
over the care of a child to him full-time.
Who is the Candy Thief? When will
we find out?
Nora knows the identity of the Candy
Thief, but she’s not sure when that person will be unmasked in the
books.
Movies
Where did they get the wedding dress
Lily wore in Montana Sky?
The dress worn by actress Laura Mennell
as Lily was custom-designed for the film.
How can I find the DVDs of the 2009
Lifetime movies?
They were just recently released by Sony
and are available in most major retailers.
When will the 2009 movies be aired
in my country?
Airdates for the movies are negotiated
country by country. When we learn of an overseas airdate we try to post
it on Nora’s website immediately.
Where can I find the video of
Sanctuary?
Sanctuary was never released in
any video form. It is currently on the Lifetime Movie rotation and airs
once or twice a year.
Why hasn’t Nora made the In Deaths
(or the Circle Trilogy, The Key Trilogy) into a movie or TV series?
They would be great!
While a huge fan of television and movies,
Nora writes books, not screenplays. It’s the film production company
that makes the first move with a plan to bring her books to film. There
are no current plans to translate the In Deaths or any of Nora’s trilogies
to film.
Miscellaneous
Would Nora critique my work?
Nora cannot critique other writers’
work. The huge number of requests would mean that she never gets to
attend to her own work.
What is some advice Nora would give
to me?
Write what you like to read—if you
are not captured by the story, who will be? Write every day—it’s
a habit that you need to build. And remember to have fun with it.
When will Nora come to my city?
Readers who are new to Nora’s work
may not realize that for nearly 20 years—from 1986 to 2006—she went
on the road for multi-week, multi-city book tours that crisscrossed
the country. Several years ago, she decided to step back from actively
touring to concentrate on her writing and her family. She does appear
at events selected by her publisher on occasion. When that happens,
the information is immediately posted on Nora’s website and included
in her newsletter.
